Post-game interview with Cat Osterman
What was the strategy tonight going after Japan?
We had a gameplan that Stacy and I wanted to execute and we did it almost perfectly the first couple of innings. We were going up and down. Making them foul off pitches and get off the plate a little bit.
Later in the game I got behind a little bit. But overall I felt like I was doing really well tonight.
How good did it feel to beat the team that beat you guys last year?
It’s a game you want to come out and make a statement. To say…we can beat you guys. I wanted to come out and make a statement that I’m a lot more solid pitcher than I showed last year.
Did you feel pressure to be the ace this year with Jennie out for so long?
Everybody says ‘you’re the ace’ but part of that is because Jennies not 100%. We have six pitchers and any one of them could be #1’s. By default I got the role and I’m ready to take it if that’s what coach wants from me.
Can you talk about the contribution the crowd made tonight?
The crowd is amazing! It’s great to hear then yell and scream when you take the field. They’re totally behind you and that’s an amazing feeling. You don’t get that everywhere. It was nice for us to have such a big crowd. Sometimes you get fans that just sit and watch…but not these guys. No way!

Cat, u r the greatest pitcher. i love to watch you. iam also a pitcher and am 12 years old and pitching for 3 years now. i have a cool new pitching coach. You may know her, her name is Kristi Devries. She used to play for Ohio State (GO BUCKS)but now she plays for the Netherlands since she was born there and she played in the world cup games against you guys. She is there now to try out for the Olympics. I haven't seen her pitch yet but she's a good coach. I still root for USA though, but also good luck to her. How many different pitches should i throw by now. i throw fast and change up and some fast end up a curve and i don't know how. my speed is 48 mph and like to pick it up. thanks for reading hope to see ya someday! morgan mccabe frankfort, ohio

HI CAT!!!
We lost our 2nd picher..So now i have to pitch like...every game..(witch is totally fine with me}...we do have 3rd & 4th pitchers but they r a little wild..I almost reached 50 m.p.h. I throwing 47 usuallly...Im still only 10...My team (Cincy Doom) went to Pigeon Forge for our 1st tournament of the season..we came in second..I pitched o.k....but the hitters hit my drop to the fense..my twisty drop isn't working...a batter hit a line drive right back to me...I spun around looking for the ball..I looked in my glove and saw the ball and held it up like a trophie...I had nooooo idea i caught it!!every 1 laghed...it was funny...my dad STILL hasn't set up my email because we have been to busy with softball..well, your sooooooooooooooooooooo awesome...see ya' (I wish)..Oh yea..hope the usa is doing good this year (I do not have ESPN2 so i can not watch those games)

I'm a big fan of yours! I'm also a pitcher I'm 14 years old I turn, but I was wondering what some things you do or did as a pitcher to improve? Right now I'm going to a pitching coach and I still have to learn all the special pitches but I'm getting there! well I hope I can hear back from you! Love your fan! ~Megs~

The USA team was great in this series. Cat Osterman is a terrific pitcher and she pitched a really super game! Lovie Junge was also "great" in the series and in the winning final game.
Why doesn't Cat Osterman get to bat in the games? I remember that Jenny Finch and Jenny Gladding ( from my hometown, Stuart,Fl) are both very good hitters.

What a statement Cat and the rest of the team made in the tourney. Pitching and hitting both were outstanding. Best of luck to them in all their games.
I love fast pitch softball especially when its played by such a talented team.
I hope ESPN continues to cover the sport.
