The Empire state of the South brings it home
It has been a very exciting and entertaining year for Little League Baseball. What a series! The Southeast team became the new world champs winning the 60th Little
League World Series in a 2-1 upset over Japan.
In the third inning, Cody Walker hit a 2-run home run for the U.S. champions, Columbus Nothern Little League (Columbus, Georgia). Pitcher Kyle Carter contributed greatly to the win, stricking out 11.
Asia (Kawaguchi City, Japan) was the favorite, backed by pitcher Go Matsumoto.
This is the first time since '92-93 that U.S. teams have won back to back world championships. Last year Hawaii (Northwest) beat the Caribbean (Curacao) 7-6.
Congratulations to the Georgia players, coach, manager, parents and fans! They certainly will be feeling this win for a long time.

Congratulations to the 2006 Little League World Series Champions. You displayed tremendous heart and beat a great Japanese team for the title. But i was even more impressed and touched by your character and sportsmanship. You all brought great credit upon yourselves, your manager and coaches, as well as your community. That was such a kind gesture in inviting the opposing team (Japan & Beaverton, Oregon) run a victory lap with your team. You are a very special team and one that will not be forgotten. Again, congratulations Columbus, Georgia on your world title!

You guys were awesome not just in the way you played the game but the way you conducted yourself. It is wonderful that you have won the LLWS, but even better still that you did so with so much class and character! You should all be very proud of your skills but also your world class conduct. Columbus, GA owes you a huge thank you for representing our town with the utmost in southern hospitality and class on the world stage. It may be years before you boys understand fully what you accomplished, but our hats go off to you for how well you carried yourselves doing it. Great job guys! The rest of us should aspire to meet your standards.
